Our Story
About Sushi Matcha
Where the art of sushi meets the serenity of tea ceremony
Our Story: From a Chef's Son to Your Host
Born in Tradition, Raised with Taste
Our owner, Ken, was born in 1991 in Nikko, Tochigi—one of Japan's most historic and scenic destinations. Raised by a father who was a professional Washoku (traditional Japanese cuisine) chef, Ken didn't just grow up eating Japanese food; he grew up immersed in the culture of creating it.
A Simple Realization
Through his experiences, Ken realized something important: travelers to Japan weren't just looking for a delicious meal. They were craving a chance to participate—to create a fun, memorable cultural experience they could take home with them.
The Perfect Blend: Sushi & Tea
This led to a simple yet profound idea: combine the joy of making sushi with the mindfulness of the tea ceremony. Our class is designed to be a transformative journey. You will craft your own sushi, enjoy your creation, and finally, cleanse your palate and calm your spirit with a bowl of matcha. This flow is the philosophy we cherish.
A Unique Blend of History and Modernity
We chose Asakusa not just for its tradition, but for its unique energy. Our studio is located in a distinctively Japanese setting: tucked right under the elevated railway tracks.
This location embodies the fascinating contrast of Tokyo. Just steps away lies the ancient Senso-ji Temple, while above, the modern rhythm of the trains connects the city. It is a space where the quiet history of the past meets the dynamic flow of the present. In this 'hidden gem' under the tracks, you will experience a truly authentic side of Japan that few guidebooks can fully capture.
Sharing the Beauty of Japan
We have welcomed countless guests from all over the world. Every lesson reminds us of why we started: to share the beauty of Japanese culinary arts, one piece of sushi and one cup of matcha at a time.
